Drive straight through or take your time stopping at any of the gorgeous villages along the way. From the South Bomen is a beautiful 3 ¾ hour drive from Melbourne via the M31 Hume Freeway. Exit the Hume just past Glenrowan taking the Milawa exit. Continue along the Snow Road and join Great Alpine Road which will then take you through the wonderful townships of Myrtleford and Bright before landing you in Harrietville. If you are coming from south-eastern Victoria, you can take Great Alpine Road from Omeo and travel up through Hotham and down the other side to Harrietville. Please note that during the winter months, it is a necessity to carry snow chains. For the more adventurous, take the Dargo High Plains Road from Dargo (closed throughout the snow season). Either route showcases some of Australia’s most breathtaking vistas. From the North Bomen is a glorious 90-minute drive from Albury-Wodonga. Leave the Hume at the Beechworth exit (B400), initially following the signs to Tallangatta. Turn right towards Yackandandah taking the Kiewa Valley Highway before joining Yackandandah-Wodonga Road. At Yack, continue onto Myrtleford-Yackandandah Road, enjoying the stunning valley and Mt Buffalo views before joining Great Alpine Road at Myrtleford. Drive through to Bright and onwards to Harrietville. Offering a level of luxury, self-contained accommodation unseen in Harrietville for its time, Casbak Alpine Units was originally developed in the 1970's by the Castricum and Bakkum families. A chance encounter during a visit to Harrietville in 2020 led to the purchase of the property by the current owners, Monique and Stephen Harris. Seeing the potential to develop the site into a luxury, design-oriented accommodation complex in a truly glorious setting, the deal was done. Guided by Architect, Larry Weston, a renovation of over 3 years was undertaken. In a nod to the original families who are still resident in the village, the property was rebranded upon the completion of renovations - Bomen has two Dutch meanings, both somewhat emblematic (1) Trees and (2) To have a chat.
